October NEWSLETTER

  • PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Illinois State Day is a wonderful memory now but it was also a wonderful day. A huge THANKS to Marlene, Sharon, Pat C and Kathy for all their hard work in putting together this day for the guild. Also thanks to Judy, Dorothy, and Pat M for helping with registration, lunch, and clean up. And to all the participants of the class, let's see who finishes first. The challenge is on!

Speaking of challenges, do not forget your challenge piece is due in December. That is only three meetings away! I know that I have to get busy and get mine done. so much stitching so little time.

    Happy Stitching!

    ILLINOIS STATE DAY

    by Lori Schreiber

The windy city Chapter hosted Illinois State 2009 at the historic Noble House in Norwood Park. The day began with a continental breakfast and the welcoming of the 16 class attendees. We were also very happy to welcome Eileen Bennett who taught her Underground Railroad Sampler Class as we sat in the oldest house in Chicago still sitting on its original foundation.

We enjoyed a delicious box lunch on the sunny wooden porch of the house and relished in one of the final summer days that Mother Nature had bless us with. The bees and butterflies were busy around the flowers, but they didn't bother us!

Additional members from the Windy City Chapter spent the day stitching in the sunlight on the porch as they made themselves available for the needs of the class group indoor. Thank you so much for the volunteers and their time that day: Judy Rubinstein, Marlene Tomasello, Dorothy Killian and Pat Morrow.

We learned some very interesting history, reacquainted ourselves with some familiar faces from past seminars and met some new friends. The day was a wonderful blend of stitching, history, friends, and food. One can never have a "bad" day when stitching is involved.

Thanks to committee members who worked so hard to make State day happen. Illinois has not had one for a few years. Also thanks to the shops, vendors and stitchers who donated door prizes.
